Do you have a favourite building, space or city in the world?
I have many favourites, I really enjoy exploring different places, but one city I have gone back to is Barcelona, Spain: sun, beach, Spanish guitar, Latin dancing, tapas, tinto de verano (summer red wine) and of course…Sagrada Familia…which is truly awe-inspiring - all of Gaudi’s work around the city is inspiring.
How do you define great design?
I think great design is a feeling, it just makes perfect sense; whether that be: in its environment, supports its user and/or a reflection of its identity.
What’s currently inspiring you creatively — whether in architecture, art, travel or everyday life?
Inspiration is everywhere, typically through small details that delight or that irk and I think could be designed differently! Lately, I have been particularly inspired by nature – it’s textures, colours, light, movement.
Are you more drawn to quiet minimalism or layered, lived-in spaces?
I’m drawn to layered, lived-in spaces with character, though I equally appreciate the calm of minimalism!
What’s your favourite part about working in a creative studio environment?
My favourite part of working in a creative studio environment is working as a collaborative and bouncing ideas around, I’m constantly learning from everyone around me. A studio environment is an incredibly accessible source of inspiration.
What’s a small detail in a home that you think makes a big difference?
Lighting. A small detail that makes such an impact on how the space feels - the source, intensity and temperature can completely transform the mood.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone building or renovating a home?
One piece of advice: engage a team you trust. Building/renovating can be an overwhelming process…engaging a team you trust gives you the flexibility to be as hands on as you want or comfortably confident trusting the process.
What first sparked your interest in architecture and design?
I love this question! A primary school activity – age 9 – coming up with a house floor plan using a set number of squares on grid paper - I loved the activity - from that day forward the back of my maths books were full of floor plans!
How would you describe your design philosophy in a few words?
Creating meaningful spaces that balance form, function, and environment.
What excites you most about residential architecture?
The opportunity to help bring a dream to life! I thoroughly enjoy creating spaces that support everyday life and evoke emotion.
How do you approach balancing creativity with functionality in a project?
Haha, ah, finding balance through constant problem-solving, it’s going on in the background, always!
Are there any architects, designers or movements that have influenced your style?
Hmm, my style is evolving! Though I find myself drawn to mid-century architecture and bohemian influences – open spaces, natural materials, character.
What part of the design process do you enjoy most?
Spatial planning and problem-solving—imagining how spaces will be lived in and refining solutions until they truly work.
